D-Day Journal

William Golding was affected by being a part of D-Day because it forever changed his perspective. He started wondering if man just inherited the idea/need to kill. Golding questioned the goodness of mankind because of the fact that everyone was just killing each other. Not a single thought might've gone through their head, their first reflex was to just shoot. For them it was either kill or get killed.

In my opinion, man is born with goodness and learns to be barbaric. Where you grow up, who raises you, it all contributes in your personality. But when you're just a little kid you don’t exactly know what you're doing. You may think what you're doing is good but in reality it's bad, but you didn’t know any better. When people are born they don’t automatically have the mindset of what's good and what is bad, as they grow  they start learning the difference and beginning to decide whether they want to be civilized or barbaric.
